DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Thursday\, November 25\, 2024 at 9:00 AM at the Celebration Town Hall building (851 Celebration Ave\, Celebration – see map below) for a trip to the Canaveral National Cemetary (click here for the cemetary location) for the traditional of laying coins on veteran’s gravestones.  Placing a coin on headstones of a service member or veteran is a show of respect and honor\, as well as letting the deceased service member’s family know someone was there. \nPlease confirm your attendance by contacting a Veterans Club of Celebration representative at our monthly meetings or contacting us by email. \nThe Cape Canaveral National Cemetery is a serene and tranquil final resting place\, nestled in the town of Mims\, Florida. As a part of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration\, it serves as an important tribute to the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served in our country’s armed forces. The well-designed grounds of the cemetery cover an impressive 318 acres\, providing a combination of columbarium\, in-ground cremation\, and casket gravesites and serves the needs of more than 163\,000 veterans in the cemetery’s service area for the next 100 years. The cemetery offers a host of services including burials\, headstones\, markers\, and medallion services\, as well as Presidential Memorial Certificates. Visitors can pay their respects amidst a backdrop of native wildlife and pristine greenery\, reminding one of the ultimate sacrifices made by these brave heroes\, and the peace they’ve earned.

DESCRIPTION:Third Monday in February \nHonors all past president of the US.\n(Also called Presidents’ Day) \nHistory and Old Observance \nGeorge Washington was born on Feb. 22\, 1732 according to the calendar we now use. But according to the Old Style Calendar then in use\, his birth date was Feb. 11. He led and encouraged his inexperienced armies against the British forces for 8 years until the colonies won their independence. He served as the first President of the US\, 1789-97\, and is affectionately called the father of his country. \nAmericans celebrated Washington’s birthday 1796\, while he was still alive\, some on the 11th and some on the 22nd. \nUntil 1971\, Feb. 22 was observed as a federal public holiday. In addition\, the birthday of Abraham Lincoln\, (see Lincoln’s Birthday)\, president during the Civil War (1861-65)\, was observed as a public holiday in most states. \n1971 President Richard Nixon declared that in order to honor all past presidents of the US\, a single holiday\, to be called Presidents’ Day\, would be observed on the 3rd Mon. in Feb. \nModern Observance \nVarious communities observe the holiday by staging pageants and reenactments of important milestones in Washington’s life. The commercial side is that many stores run P-Day sales.

DESCRIPTION:The Boy Scout / Cub Scout Troop 125 Flag Retirement Ceremony to be held at the Artisan Park Amphitheater on March 29\, 2025 at 9:00 AM.  All club members are recommended and welcome to participate in this event. \nAll Celebration Veterans Club and Auxiliary members should wear their Celebration polo shirts and other proper attire. \nFlag Protocols for Retiring the Flag\nProper Retirement \n\nCommunity Ceremonies: Many organizations\, such as the Boy Scouts of America or the American Legion\, hold flag retirement ceremonies that involve the burning of the flag with appropriate honors\, followed by the burial of its ashes.\nRetirement Ceremony: If the flag is worn\, tattered\, or damaged beyond repair\, it should be retired in a dignified manner\, typically through a flag retirement ceremony. The preferred method of retirement is by burning\, conducted with care and respect.

SUMMARY:Trip: Cemetary Coins at Canaveral National Cemetary
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Wednesday\, April 09 at 9 AM at the Celebration Town Hall building (851 Celebration Ave\, Celebration – see map below) for a trip to the Canaveral National Cemetary (click here for the cemetery location) for the traditional of laying coins on veteran’s gravestones. Placing a coin on headstones of a service member or veteran is a show of respect and honor\, as well as letting the deceased service member’s family know someone was there. \nClick here to sign up. \nThe Cape Canaveral National Cemetery is a serene and tranquil final resting place\, nestled in the town of Mims\, Florida. As a part of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration\, it serves as an important tribute to the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served in our country’s armed forces. The well-designed grounds of the cemetery cover an impressive 318 acres\, providing a combination of columbarium\, in-ground cremation\, and casket gravesites and serves the needs of more than 163\,000 veterans in the cemetery’s service area for the next 100 years. The cemetery offers a host of services including burials\, headstones\, markers\, and medallion services\, as well as Presidential Memorial Certificates. Visitors can pay their respects amidst a backdrop of native wildlife and pristine greenery\, reminding one of the ultimate sacrifices made by these brave heroes\, and the peace they’ve earned.
