Honor Flight is a program that organizes and funds trips for veterans to visit memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. These flights typically bring veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit monuments and memorials that commemorate their specific war or period of service. The Honor Flight Network, established in 2005, is one of the well-known organizations that coordinates these trips.

Three members of the Veterans Club of Celebration attended the Honor Flight to Washington DC on April 27, 2024. Those members are James Graham, Peter Lanzarone, and Dennis Kaszynski. Please view the pictures of the April 27 2024 Honor Flight experience here.

The primary purpose of Honor Flights is to recognize and honor veterans by giving them the opportunity to visit and reflect at the memorials built in their honor. The trips are often provided at no cost to the veterans, funded through donations and sponsorships. For many veterans, these trips can be deeply meaningful and emotional experiences, allowing them to reconnect with their own history and receive recognition for their contributions to their country.

The Honor Flight program began with a focus on World War II veterans but has since expanded to include veterans from other conflicts, such as the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The trips typically include visits to national memorials such as the World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery.

Overall, Honor Flights serve as a way to express gratitude to veterans and ensure that their service and sacrifices are remembered and appreciated by the nation.
