The calendar says Happy Hour. The mission is simpler than that: sit down with people who already know what “hurry up and wait” means, order something that requires a napkin, and remember that not every muster has to start with “Attention.”

Friday, September 4, the Veterans Club of Celebration holds its First Friday Meet Up at Tacos Don Andres. Fun starts at 1600 hours. That is 4:00 p.m. for the folks who retired their 24-hour clock and never looked back.
|
This is not a meeting. There is no agenda, no treasurer’s report, and nobody is taking attendance — though if you are late, someone will notice, and they will comment. That is not harassment. That is fellowship with a side of salsa.
|
Bring your spouse. Bring the neighbor who “was going to join the club one of these years.” Wear the club polo if you want to look official. Wear a Hawaiian shirt if you want to look like you won. Either way, the tacos do not care about your rank.
|
Good food. Great company. Veteran fellowship. That is the whole operations order.
|
|
If you can only make one thing this month, make this one. The Shades of Green breakfast is the 26th. Outreach is the 15th. Coins on the stones is the 22nd. Happy Hour is how we remember we still like each other between the serious stuff.

Last time we rolled into Shades of Green like a well-coordinated breakfast assault, and victory was declared before the bacon hit room temperature. The dining hall was packed wall-to-wall with veterans, spouses, kids, and grandkids. Coffee was hot. Stories were hotter. Someone may have gone back for thirds. We are not naming names.
|
Saturday, September 26, 2026, we do it again. This is our bi-annual breakfast buffet at the Armed Forces Recreation Center on Disney property — the one place in town where the ID check actually means something and the scrambled eggs understand the chain of command.
|
Bring your spouse. Bring a buddy who has been “meaning to come.” Leave the diet at the gate. We keep the camaraderie strong, the laughs loud, and the coffee hot.

Spots go faster than the bacon disappears. Get on the list.

The Air Force taught a lot of us that small contributions add up. Thirty dollars will not buy a fighter jet. It will cover a Celebration High School AFJROTC cadet’s Yearly Activity Fee — the difference between sitting on the sidelines and showing up in uniform, ready to lead.

Sponsor a Cadet is simple. Your $30 goes straight to leadership labs, community service, drill, and the kind of “yes, Chief” discipline that turns teenagers into citizens. The program’s motto on the flyer says it best: Building Better Citizens One Cadet at a Time. Leadership. Citizenship. Discipline. Future. That is not marketing copy. That is the mission.

This is also personal for our club. We already support Celebration High School JrAFROTC, and these cadets show up for our parades, ceremonies, and Memorial Day. Time to return fire.
